The government is considering raising electricity tariffs for households

Deputy Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said that the Cabinet of Ministers is considering raising electricity tariffs. The Cabinet of Ministers is discussing this option, as resources are needed for the next heating season.

We are discussing, among other things, raising tariffs. We analyze all the financial resources available to us, including the assistance provided by our partners, declared by them and that will be provided in the near future. We are analyzing the capabilities of our energy companies, including discussing the possibility of raising the tariff,” emphasized Hrynchuk.

According to Svitlana Hrynchuk, the decision to raise electricity tariffs has not yet been made.

However, the official does not rule out that the government may have to do this in order to have the resources to prepare for the next heating season.

Now, unfortunately, with the damage that has been done, a significant deficit is forecast for the next heating season. Then there may be power outages for household consumers. We are trying to find and implement solutions that will mitigate these consequences in winter,” the Deputy Minister summarized.

MP Kucherenko also stated that the cost of electricity would increase. According to him, the cost is being discussed in the range of 3.5-4 UAH/kWh. The current tariff is UAH 2.64. That is, the price is expected to rise by 1.5 times. Kucherenko predicts that the increase could happen as early as June 1.
