Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has unveiled its latest Dazzler laser weapon technology to counter air and sea enemy targets.
The Dazzler laser, a silent, non-ballistic means of countering unmanned air and sea threats, was demonstrated integrated with the powerful R800 Remote Weapon System (RWS).
The R800 sets a new standard in threat response. Scott Hicks, vice president of sales and business development at EOS Defense Systems, said the introduction of the Dazzler as part of the R800’s capability set marks a significant development in non-ballistic countermeasures.
The R800 is a powerful combat station capable of deploying automatic guns of up to 30 mm caliber, as well as short-range anti-tank and ground missiles. Dazzler is called the “big brother” of the Slinger system. This anti-drone system combines a 30-mm cannon with special ammunition and provides a range of up to 800 meters.
The Dazzler uses a 500 W continuous wave (CW) laser, effective at distances up to 2000 meters. While the Slinger machine gun completely destroys drones, the laser cannon is designed to destroy electro-optical guidance systems, so it is considered a “soft destruction” system.
Combined with the traditional 30mm R800 cannon and its twin 7.62mm machine gun, the Dazzler provides operators with a range of effective kinetic and non-kinetic options to combat flying and surface drones.
The Dazzler laser system was designed and developed in Australia specifically for export markets with a focus on countering modern threats from unmanned aerial and surface vessels, based on lessons learned from the war in Ukraine.
