The modernized M109A7 howitzer from BAE Systems received a powerful 155 mm German Rheinmetall L52 gun
BAE Systems has shown a new version of the M109A7 self-propelled artillery system. The company announced this on its official website.
The modernization brought the 155 mm L52 cannon, developed by the German defense concern Rheinmetall. The length of the barrel increased from 39 to 52 calibers, which increased the range of fire.
BAE Systems conducted a series of tests of the M109A7 to ensure the viability of the modernization. The tests of the self-propelled artillery system were organized at the Camp Ripley training ground in Minnesota.
According to the manufacturer, the artillery system demonstrated stable performance during the tests. At the same time, BAE Systems intends to continue testing the M109A7 with the new gun next year. The tests will be aimed at assessing the range of various types of artillery ammunition.
