The newest Kinzhal hypersonic missile crashed on the territory of Russia

On September 14, a 9-S-7760 aeroballistic missile from the Russian Kinzhal hypersonic aviation missile complex crashed in the Turkmen District of the Stavropol Territory, Russia.

Apparently, the rocket did not explode immediately after falling. Such conclusions are suggested by the words of the governor of the Stavropol region, who stated that five civilians who came to see the fallen object were injured as a result of the explosion. Russian mass media claim that a Ukrainian Tu-141 Strizh drone crashed in the region, but provide no evidence.

Probably, the rocket was flying in the direction of Kryvyi Rih. It was on this city that the Russians struck with the Kinzhal missile complex on September 14. Missile carriers are MiG-31K, Tu-22M3, Su-57 and Tu-160 aircraft, which are deployed in the Caspian Sea.

‘Dagger’ is a new hypersonic missile system of the Russian army. But the missile itself, in fact, is an analogue of the Iskander ballistic missile, but with the possibility of launching from an aircraft. During the flight, the 9-S-7760 can reach a speed of up to 15,000 km/h.

The launch range varies depending on the type of carrier aircraft. For example, the MiG-31K can hit targets at a distance of 2,000 km, and the Tu-22M3 – more than 3,000 km. But in any case, when launching from the waters of the Caspian Sea, in both cases, the range is enough to reach any point in Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian air defense system is still not capable of intercepting ‘Kynzhal’ missiles. In this regard, the only thing that pleases me is that there are not so many of them in the arsenal of the Russian army. For more than half a year, only a few applications of hypersonic missiles were recorded.
