The Ukrainian R18 unmanned aerial vehicle destroyed a state-of-the-art Russian tank worth several million dollars.
The R18 is equipped with several RKG-3 anti-tank grenades. The unmanned aerial vehicle discovered the T-90M ‘Breakthrough’ tank, which was immobilized. Probably, the combat vehicle ran over a mine.
The drone operators waited until evening and dropped several missiles at the tank. As a result, the T-90M ‘Breakthrough’ was destroyed by a drone costing $20,000. The tank itself costs from $2.5 million to $4.5 million, depending on the level of modernization.
The T-90M ‘Breakthrough’ is the most modern Russian tank that has entered serial production. There is still the T-14 Armata, but this combat vehicle has not even been adopted yet. Although by 2020, the Russian industry wanted to produce more than 2,000 tanks.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed at least six T-90M ‘Breakthrough’ tanks since February 24, 2022. At least two more combat vehicles were captured, repaired and put into service with the Ukrainian army.
