80 percent of the cars bought are Chinese models and cars of local production.
The Russian car market continues to fall. According to Avtostat’s calculations, 45,200 new passenger cars were bought there in January 2023 — 47 percent less than a year earlier.
80 percent of them are Russian and Chinese brands (18.4 thousand and 17.2 thousand, respectively). Moreover, local brands increased the volume by only five percent, while Chinese brands increased by 2.1 times.
The results of automakers from Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea remain in the deep red, exceeding 70 percent. As a result, the share of Russian marks doubled in January, and that of Chinese marks quadrupled.
Lada remains the market leader. It is the only local brand in the top 5, followed by the ‘Chinese three’ — Chery, Haval and Geely. Fifth place went to the Korean Kia. In addition, Omoda – the ‘daughter’ of Chery, which entered the market only last fall, entered the top ten. She was in eighth place.
As for models, the first place went to Lada Granta, which sold 11,910 copies — 2.8 times more than in the same month of 2022. The second line was taken by Lada Niva Travel with a huge lag and a result of 2,951 copies. It is joined by the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro: 2,283 buyers chose it (a 2.4-fold increase), securing the third place for the Chinese crossover.
It is followed by Lada Niva Legend (2,088 vehicles, sales growth of 69.2 percent), Geely Coolray (1,793 vehicles, growth of 2.5 times), Haval Jolion (1,586 vehicles, growth of 10.5 percent) and Geely Atlas Pro (1,188 machines, 3.4 times growth).
