the Russian Federation will not extradite to the Netherlands those responsible for the crash of Flight NM17, — mass media

An anonymous source in the Russian law enforcement agencies informed journalists that they have no intention of extraditing Girkin and Dubinsky to the Netherlands to serve their sentence, as the Kremlin does not recognize the court’s decision.

Russia has announced that it will not extradite to the Netherlands those sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in the case of the downed Malaysian Boeing. This is reported by the Russian ‘Interfax’ with reference to its own anonymous source in the law enforcement agencies.

The interlocutor of the journalists, whose name the media editorial office does not mention for reasons of anonymity, said that the Constitution of the Russian Federation establishes a direct ban on the extradition of Russian citizens to foreign countries.

‘That is why neither one nor the other convict will be extradited,’ summed up a representative of the Russian law enforcement system.

The anonymous source’s statement referred to Igor Girkin (Strelkov) and Dubinsky.

In addition, as the interlocutor of ‘Interfax’ stated, the Russian authorities do not recognize the decision of the Hague Court, since the Russian side was removed from the investigation of the case.

‘the Russian side considers the court’s verdict unfounded, as the preliminary investigation was conducted one-sidedly and tendentially. All the arguments of the Russian side were unreasonably rejected,’ said the interlocutor of the agency.

It will be recalled that on November 17, the Hague Court found Russian militant Igor Girkin (Strelkov) and two of his subordinates guilty of the crash of Boeing MH17. They were sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment.

In addition, Judge Hendrik Steinhaus issued a verdict to pay the relatives of the victims of the MH17 disaster. Ihor Girkin and his ‘subordinates’ — Serhiy Dubinsky and Leonid Kharchenko — must pay €16 million to the relatives of those killed in the plane crash.
