The second failure: Britain fails to test Trident nuclear missile again
A nuclear missile test launch from a Royal Navy submarine goes awry for the second time, and the UK Ministry of Defense says it was an “anomaly.”
A Trident II ballistic missile crashed into the water near the launch site off the coast of Florida. This is the second unsuccessful launch in a row, following an attempt in 2016.
In addition, Secretary of Defense Grant Shapps was on board the submarine during the failed test.
The Ministry of Defense also told Business Insider that an “anomaly” occurred during the trial run. The reasons why something went wrong were not specified.
For those who don’t know
Trident is the name of the British nuclear weapons program, which includes a group of four submarines, long-range missiles, and nuclear warheads.
