In April, the U.S. Air Force conducted several events called “elephant walks.” One of the most spectacular took place at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.
The U.S. Air Force took 49 aircraft into the sky simultaneously, nine of which were MQ-9 Reaper drones. For General Atomics’ drones, this was the first time they participated in an “elephant walk.” Along with them, 40 fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters took to the skies.
From the end of March to the end of April, the US Air Force held six such events at once. We have already written about how seven E-3 Sentries took to the skies at Tinker Air Force Base, and 18 KC-135 Stratotankers took an elephantine walk at MacDill Air Force Base.
The US Air Force also conducted exercises with the KC-135 Stratotanker, KC-46 Pegasus and C-17 Globemaster II at Altus Air Force Base; with the KC-46 and KC-135 at McConnell Air Force Base. In addition, 80 trainer aircraft and 4,000 pilots participated in the event at Sheppard.
