The U.S. Navy has a new addition: the first ship in the Flight III configuration, the guided-missile destroyer USS Jack H. Lucas
The U.S. Navy has been replenished with a new ship. Over the weekend, the USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) was commissioned.
The ceremony took place in Tampa, Florida. The new destroyer will be deployed in San Diego. It is the 75th ship of the Arleigh Burke class and the first destroyer in the Flight III configuration. The modernization focuses on the AN/SPY-6(V)1 radar, power and cooling efficiency.
The USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) was laid down on November 8, 2019. His baptism took place on March 26, 2022. A few days ago, the ship left the Huntington-Ingalls Shipbuilding shipyard and headed for Tampa. On the way, the destroyer test-fired an SM-2 missile.
The ship is 155.3 meters long and 20 meters wide. The power plant is represented by four General Electric L2500 gas turbines with a capacity of 100,000 horsepower. The maximum speed is 57 km/h.
The USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) has two Mk 41 vertical launch systems for 32 and 64 cells. They allow launching anti-aircraft and cruise missiles, including Tomahawk. The destroyer also has torpedo tubes and a Phalanx CIWS gun.
