The Ukrainian military destroyed the Russian minesweeper Kovrovets

Ukrainian defenders destroyed another Russian ship, the Kovrovets minesweeper. It is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Ukrainian Navy in Telegram and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Kovrovets minesweeper,” reads the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Navy confirms that it has managed to destroy the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s Project 266-M Kovrovets minesweeper.

Information about the ship

“The Kovrovets is a 266M project minesweeper. The ship’s main tasks include trawling for ships and vessels, reconnaissance and control trawling, laying corridors in minefields, participating in mining, etc.

The ship joined the Soviet fleet in 1974 under the name Kursky Komsomolets. In 1992 it was renamed Navodchyk, and in 1999 it received its current name Kovrovets.

“The Kovrovets took part in operations in the Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, and patrolled off the coast of Syria. In 2016-2017, the minesweeper was included in the Russian Mediterranean Fleet.

Losses of the Russian Navy

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian defenders have destroyed 26 Russian ships. Ukrainian forces also managed to destroy an enemy submarine.
