The US Army wants to get Ukrainian-type drones with equipment for dropping ammunition
The US Army intends to arm itself with “Ukrainian-style” bomber drones. Two companies responded to the military’s request.
What is known
The US Army wants to equip drones with ammunition drop systems. Ukraine has demonstrated the effectiveness of such weapons by destroying several hundred Russian tanks and armored vehicles. For example, this week, a modernized T-90M “Proryv” tank worth $2.5-4.5 million was liquidated in this way.
The US Army has selected two companies that will demonstrate ammunition drop systems for small unmanned aerial vehicles. This was stated by Dan Hilty, a representative of the Army Applications Laboratory. He did not mention the names of the companies.
The new system should enable the military to safely attach and detach projectiles, including 40 mm and 60 mm grenades. To demonstrate the technology, drones approved by the US Department of Defense for military use will be used.
The US Army is also considering arming its units with small kamikaze drones. For this purpose, the service launched the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) program. The goal of the project is to create a drone with a deadly combat payload, as well as electro-optical and/or infrared cameras. The kit should include a control station and a launcher in the form of a pipe.
