Ukraine wants to get these projectiles for HIMARS missile systems and 155-mm howitzers
The USA is considering providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine with cluster munitions. CNN writes about it.
It is noted that cluster weapons are prohibited by the international convention, which came into effect in 2010, but neither Ukraine, nor the USA, nor Russia joined it. American officials see the transfer of these weapons only as an emergency measure and at the same time do not completely rule out the possibility.
The publication notes that for Ukraine, cluster munitions could solve two main problems: the need for more ammunition for artillery and missile systems provided by the United States and other countries, and a way to reduce Russia’s numerical superiority in artillery.
According to the publication, Ukraine wants to use these shells for HIMARS missile systems and 155-mm howitzers. CNN says this will allow the armed forces to more effectively attack more dispersed targets, such as concentrations of Russian troops and equipment on the battlefield.
It was previously reported that the US is considering the possibility of handing over small bombs to Ukraine to hit the Russian rear. The projectiles have a range of 150 km.
