The US may ban the use of Russian software

CNN reports on a potential White House ban on the use of software developed by the Russian company Kaspersky Lab by American citizens and companies. This decision, which is currently under development, may be made as early as this month. It is noted that the ban may apply to access to certain Kaspersky Lab products and services by users in the United States.

It’s worth noting that US government agencies have already banned the use of Kaspersky Lab software. However, imposing such a ban on the private sector and individual users would be an unprecedented step.

Sources indicate that although the final decision has not yet been announced, the US Department of Commerce has already made an “initial decision” to ban certain transactions between the Russian company and US persons.

This step by the Biden administration is aimed at reducing risks to critical US infrastructure, in particular through the use of Kaspersky Lab anti-virus software. Over the years, there have been concerns that the Russian government could use Kaspersky Lab products to transfer data or attempt to hack and surveil American users, which the company strongly denies.

Kaspersky Lab software is used by more than 400 million people and 240 thousand by companies around the world, emphasizing the company’s broad reach and influence in the global cybersecurity market.
