The White House noted China’s readiness to continue cooperating with Russia
China imported a record amount of oil from Russia, contributing to the affairs of the aggressor country
By importing a record amount of oil from Russia, China has shown readiness to continue cooperation with the aggressor country.
This was stated by US Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby.
“We called on China to be a responsible force and to join the rest of the world in condemning what Russia has done in Ukraine and in applying sanctions against Russia,” – Kirby recalled.
He noted that this is another example of how global security is actually interconnected.
“It’s not just about security on the European continent. It’s connected. What is happening in Ukraine is a great example of how it is related to national security – to our national security interests, as well as the interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region,” – Kirby added.
It will be recalled that in May, Russia increased oil exports to China to record volumes by 55% compared to 2021. China has steadily increased its oil purchases in Russia at bargain prices, filling a vacuum created after Western buyers abandoned doing business with Russia after its invasion of Ukraine in February. The Chinese took the move a month after initially cutting supplies from Russia for fear of imposing sanctions on their state-owned oil giants.
