The withdrawal of Nokia and Ericsson from the Russian Federation will cause communication problems for ordinary Russians – Reuters
Manufacturers of telecommunication equipment will leave the Russian market by the end of the year
The exit from the Russian market of telecommunications equipment manufacturers Nokia and Ericsson at the end of the year may paralyze the mobile networks of the Russian Federation, causing the deterioration of communication for ordinary Russians.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to high-ranking executives of telecommunications companies and other sources in the industry.
Russian smartphone users are likely to be affected by slower downloads, more dropped calls, and longer outages in mobile networks, as operators lose the ability to update or patch software, it said.
Ericsson and Nokia, which account for a large share of the telecommunications equipment market and about 50% of base stations in Russia, make everything from telecommunications antennas to the hardware that connects the optical fiber that carries digital signals.
They also provide software that allows different parts of the network to work together.
‘We’re working until the end of the year, and that’s when all the sanctions exemptions expire,’ Ericsson’s chief financial officer, Karl Mellander, told Reuters.
We will remind: the Russian subsidiary of the Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson has announced the transfer of its customer support business in Russia to local management. Nokia will also leave Russia by the end of the year.
