The world’s tallest wooden building may appear in Western Australia. It will be 191.2 meters high, CNN reports.
Perth Metro’s Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) has approved a proposal by developer Grange Development for a skyscraper currently called C6. It should be almost twice as tall as the wooden building, which is considered the tallest to date.
The building will consist of 42% wood, with columns and a core made of reinforced concrete. The work will use 7,400 cubic meters of wood harvested from 600 trees.
The developer promises that the skyscraper will be the first carbon-neutral residential building in Western Australia. It will have 50 floors and will contain more than 200 apartments. In addition, the building will have green elements: a rooftop garden, a farm, and access for residents to 80 Tesla Model 3 electric cars.
With this project, James Dibble, director of Grange Development, wants to draw attention to a conscious environmental approach to construction.
Currently, the world’s tallest hybrid wood and concrete building is the Ascent Tower in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its height is 25 floors or 86 meters. In particular, when C6 is completed, it will exceed Atlassian’s future hybrid wooden headquarters in Sydney, which is currently on track to break Ascent’s record.
