Toyota and Lexus electric cars to switch to Tesla NACS charging connector
Toyota and its Lexus sub-brand will begin implementing Tesla NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging connectors, joining a format supported by other automakers such as Ford, GM, Honda, and, most recently, BMW.
However, it is still about “certain” vehicles starting in 2025, The Verge reports. For all its other electric vehicles, Toyota will provide adapters to access more than 12,000 Tesla Supercharger stations.

One of the first Toyota vehicles to be equipped with a NACS connector will be a three-row SUV that will be assembled at the automaker’s plant in Kentucky starting in 2025, and the next electric vehicle from Lexus will appear in 2026. Currently, Toyota, compared to most other automakers, does not offer many options for all-electric vehicles and has only released the bZ4X and Lexus RZ 450e.
Toyota has joined Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Fisker, Hyundai, and BMW in adopting NACS. Currently, the only major companies that are avoiding this are Stellantis, which owns the Citroen, Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge brands, and the Volkswagen Group. Given that Toyota is the most conservative in its business decision-making, it is very likely that other companies will soon follow suit, at least in the US market.
