Turkey begins integration of ATMACA anti-ship missiles on Barbados project frigates

To replace the American Harpoon

The Turkish Navy has begun work on equipping frigates with anti-ship missiles. The process will take several years.

Turkey intends to arm Barbados project frigates with ATMACA anti-ship missiles. The integration will last until 2027. ATMACA will allow the Turkish Navy to refuse to import foreign anti-ship missiles.

ATMACA will be carried by 11 frigates. The maximum launch range is approximately 250 km. Currently, Turkish frigates of the Barbados project are armed with American Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

The development of ATMACA began almost 15 years ago, but the first sea trials took place only in 2019. During the test, the TCG Kinaliada frigate was able to successfully launch an anti-ship missile and destroy the target.
