U.S. to include long-range ATACMS missiles in military aid package for Ukraine – ABC News
The White House is likely to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles in the near future.
This was reported by ABC News, citing sources.
One of the sources said that the missiles “will be delivered,” but emphasized that the content of the military aid package could change before the official announcement.
Another U.S. official also confirmed that such a proposal is being prepared and will most likely be included in a future military aid package for Ukraine.
Depending on the modification, these missiles, which are launched using the HIMARS and M270 platforms, can fly up to 300 km.
The Ukrainian side has repeatedly asked the United States to supply these long-range missiles. The Americans, however, feared that this would lead to an escalation of the conflict, and also cited the fact that the stocks of these missiles in the warehouses were relatively small. However, according to ABC News sources, it later turned out that ATACMS stocks were larger than initial estimates showed.
In July 2022, Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, said that the transfer of such long-range missiles to Ukraine could lead to the outbreak of World War III, but a year later he said that the decision to send ATACMS would be made by Joe Biden personally.
In May, it became known that the UK had supplied Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles with a range of 250 km. Since then, they have been used to strike at the facilities of the Russian Armed Forces in the occupied territories.
It also became known that Germany may soon decide to supply Kyiv with Taurus cruise missiles.
