UAV “Red Apple” with Ukrainian engine to be mass-produced
aykar Tech has begun preparations for the serial production of Kizilelma unmanned fighter aircraft. According to the company’s CEO Selçuk Bayraktar’s statement in an interview with Reuters, it will be launched in 2024.
The Turkish company has gained worldwide fame thanks to the successful use of Bayraktar TB2 in Azerbaijan and Ukraine. The unmanned vehicles it produces are a huge export success. As a result, Baykar Tech has managed to become one of the largest Turkish exporters of defense products.
According to Bayraktar, the Red Apple drone was originally designed as an autonomous air-to-air combat aircraft controlled by a pilot-operator on the ground. The head of Baykar Tech personally flew the 15-meter-long unmanned fighter aircraft during flight tests.
Kizilelma made its first flight in February this year. In April, Baykar Tech engineers began testing it in tandem with other UAVs, including ACINCI. Soon, the Red Apple will take to the skies alongside manned fighters of the Turkish Air Force.
