Ukraine became a member of the “Energy European Union”
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the completion of the process of unification of the Ukrainian and European energy systems, saying that Ukraine has now become a member of the “Energy European Union”.
The head of state wrote about this on Twitter on Wednesday.
“Now our electricity flows to the EU, and European – to Ukraine,” – said the president.
He thanked the EU leadership, in particular the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, and everyone, “thanks to whom we now have a single energy system.”

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said that not only the electricity networks of Ukraine but also Moldova, are now synchronized with the networks of continental Europe. “They are completely disconnected from the Russian system“, – Maasikas wrote on Twitter.
The news was welcomed by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“Ukraine, Moldova, and Europe: common values, common strength, and solidarity. I welcome the key step taken today to preserve light and warmth in homes in these dark times by synchronizing Ukraine’s and Moldova’s electricity networks with the EU. We will continue to work with stabilizing their energy systems,” – she said on Twitter.

The European Commission and the European Grid Association have agreed to begin the process of Ukraine’s emergency connection to the EU’s single grid in late February, following the start of the Russian invasion.
Joining the pan-European energy system ETSO-E is an important component of energy security, as the system will no longer be affected by Russia and Belarus.
