Ukraine creates air defense simulator to train fighters to shoot down Shakhtys (photo)

Ukrainian developers have created a Browning M2 heavy machine gun simulator, which can be used by Ukrainian soldiers to train to shoot down Russian Shahed kamikaze drones.

The developers, Igor Belov and Eduard Brazas, spoke about this on TSN as part of the United News telethon.

“This is the latest development. At the request of the military, we have developed an air defense simulator built to destroy short-range targets and train,” Belov said.

He said that the terms of reference were developed by the military. The simulator consists of a combat platform on which a heavy machine gun is mounted, used by the military to destroy short-range targets such as Shahed drones. The set also includes a virtual reality helmet.

“This is a combat machine gun equipped with electronic devices that ‘communicate’ with a computer and software. In terms of its weight and size characteristics and controls, it fully corresponds to or is a combat machine gun. The software part of the simulator can build any scenarios that already include ballistic characteristics, windage errors, and any weather,” said one of the simulator’s developers.

“It is very difficult to recreate an air target in real life, but in virtual mode we can build any scenario. And after training on such systems, the fighters already know how to behave when a real Shahed flies,” he said.

According to Belov, this simulator is the most effective today for training military personnel to destroy such targets.

“The guys can train in an interactive mode without using ammunition quickly, efficiently and safely,” he added.

The developer also pointed out that such air defense simulators are mobile systems that can be quickly deployed anywhere: in the field, in a military unit, or in a tent. It takes only 15 minutes to assemble the system and start training on it. This prototype has already been finalized and is ready for delivery to the Armed Forces.

In addition, training grounds are already in operation. Every day, 70 people train at each of them.
