Ukraine develops sight for Mk 19 grenade launcher
Specialists from the 47th Brigade’s artillery weapons workshop have developed a sighting device for an American automatic grenade launcher. It is a square bracket. The Mk 19 sight comes with an instruction manual. It is worth noting that the product has several design flaws.
According to one of the brigade’s grenade launchers, who has already tested the sight in practice, the sighting device does not allow for horizontal corrections. Vertical guidance of the Mk 19 is carried out by range scales. The problem is that the ballistics of a grenade depends on its type. Thus, the range scales on the sighting device are not suitable for other types of grenades.
Mk 19 grenade launchers are supplied to Ukraine as part of defense support. They do not have a standard sight for firing from closed positions. American grenade launchers are equipped with sights for direct fire.
Sights for grenade launchers are also supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the Come Back Alive Foundation. The AGS-17 and PAG-17 schemes were used as the basis for their design. They are more flexible in adjustment settings.
The Foundation has announced a fundraiser for sighting devices for the Mk 19 together with Ukrainer. The foundation has its own design department. It was his employees who designed the sight for the American grenade launcher.
