Ukraine hands over engines for new generation ATAK-II attack helicopter to Turkey
Turkey has received two Ukrainian-made engines to be installed in the new generation ATAK-II helicopter. This is reported by the Turkish edition of SavunmaSanayiST.
Turksih Aerospace Industries (TAI) has received two TV3-117VMA-SBM1V-01T engines. They will be used to power the first prototype of the new generation helicopter. The contract between TAI and the Ukrainian company Motor Sich was signed in 2021. Turkey will receive 14 powerplants by 2025.
The Turkish manufacturer started working on a promising helicopter in 2019. The development is part of the Ağır Sınıf Taarruz Helikopter program. The ATAK-II will be put into service with the Turkish Army and Navy.
The helicopter will be able to carry a payload of up to 1500 kg and reach a speed of 318 km/h. The maximum takeoff weight will be 10,000 kg. The ATAK-II will be equipped with a 30 mm cannon, as well as six suspension points for MKE FFAR, Hydra 70, CRV7, UMTAS, L-UMTAS, Cirit and AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles.
