Ukraine has deployed a revolutionary network of thousands of sensors to track Shahed kamikaze drones

In Ukraine, a network of thousands of acoustic sensors across the country is used to detect Shahed 136 kamikaze drones.

This allows mobile air defense teams to respond to threats in advance. This was reported by The War Zone.

This technological know-how has attracted the interest of the US military, which wants to test the effectiveness of the development. General James Hecker, head of the U.S. Air Force in Europe and Africa and the Commander of NATO’s Allied Air Forces, spoke about this network of drones at the Air Force Association’s Military Equipment Symposium.

According to him, at the unclassified level, Ukraine has managed to do some rather complicated things to get a picture of “low-altitude objects” after constant intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR).

“Imagine if you have a series of sensors, imagine, for example, a cell phone, with power so it doesn’t run out, okay? And then you put a microphone to make the acoustics of the one-way UAVs that are flying overhead louder. And you have 6000 of these devices all over the country. They successfully pick up one-way UAVs like Shahed 136 and the like,” the general emphasized.

The Shahed 136 drones have relatively small engines, but generate a high level of noise. Ukraine monitors sensor data to be able to combine all the data and transmit images to the command center, but how exactly this network works remains a mystery.

“We are planning to do some tests to see if this can be exported to NATO,” said James Hecker.
