Ukraine may extend working week to 60 hours for the period of war

During martial law, the number of working hours for some Ukrainians may be increased from 40 to 60 per week, and the duration of weekly uninterrupted rest may be reduced to 24 hours.

Pursuant to Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Organization of Labor Relations under Martial Law”, the working hours during martial law may be increased to 60 hours for some citizens. This is stated on the official government portal.

The Eastern Interregional Department of the State Labor Service of Ukraine said in a statement that the extended working week during the war is for people working at critical infrastructure facilities in the defense and life support sectors.

As for employees of infrastructure facilities, who are required by law to work a shorter working week, their working hours may be increased to 40 hours per week during martial law.

At the same time, weekly uninterrupted rest for critical infrastructure workers may be reduced to 24 hours. The employer sets the start and end time of the shift and the number of working hours.

It is also reported that labor remuneration is paid in the amount increased in proportion to the increase in labor standards.

On July 19, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft law that would oblige employers to pay all salary arrears and penalties for overdue payments.
