Ukraine receives first international license for production of 155-mm shells

The agreement with KNDS will allow Ukraine to quickly establish production of scarce large-caliber artillery shells

Ukraine, through an agreement with the French-German defense conglomerate KNDS, received its first foreign license to produce 155-caliber shells. This was announced by Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin on Telegram.

“The agreement signed yesterday between KNDS and one of the Ukrainian manufacturers is very important. Why? Because this is the first license in Ukraine to produce 155-caliber shells,” he wrote.

According to Kamyshin, with such an agreement in place, KNDS’ Ukrainian partner “will be able to prepare the site and start production fairly quickly.”

In early May, Kamyshin said that Ukraine had begun to produce artillery shells on its own, but still needed help from international partners.
On February 17, the German defense concern Rheinmetall announced its intention to build an ammunition plant in Ukraine with a capacity of at least 100,000 shells per year.
