Ukraine receives SAMP/T air defense system
Together with Patriot, it will shoot down Russian ballistic missiles
Four months after France announced that it would provide Ukraine with the SAMP/T air defense system, the system was delivered. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the French leader, the SAMP/T air defense system has already been deployed in Ukraine and protects key facilities and the lives of the country’s residents. The Armed Forces, the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have not yet commented on the French president’s statement.
SAMP/T is a Franco-Italian anti-aircraft missile system that includes launchers with Astere-30 missiles. Ukraine is to receive 700 anti-aircraft missiles and two Ground Master 200 radars.
The system is capable of intercepting airborne threats at an altitude of up to 25 km and at a range of up to 100 km. Together with the MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile system, SAMP/T will provide an even higher level of protection against Russian ballistic missiles.
By the way, it is possible that the new air defense system will also shoot down hypersonic X-47M2 Kinzhal missiles, because, by and large, this is an Iskander ballistic missile launched from an aircraft. Indeed, it is capable of reaching speeds of more than Mach 5 (6174 km/h), but it cannot maintain this speed throughout the flight. The Patriot in Kyiv has already shot down 13 of the 13 Kinzhal missiles, including six last weekend.
