Ukrainian Armed Forces create self-propelled artillery system from towed MT-12 “Rapier” and MT-LB guns
The Ukrainian military demonstrated a universal self-propelled gun system based on the MT-LB armored personnel carrier. The artillery unit uses the MT-12 Rapier as a gun. In fact, the craftsmen installed a 100-mm anti-tank gun on the Motoliga in a handicraft manner. The result was a home-made UAV.
The video with the unusual weapon was published by journalists of the Military Courier on Telegram. It follows that the MT-LB is used as a self-propelled carriage for an anti-tank gun.
It is worth noting that the occupiers were the first to install Rapiers on MT-LB due to the lack of armor. Ukrainian engineers borrowed this solution from them. A large number of Rapiers and Motoligas have remained in Ukraine since the Soviet era. Thus, the practice of their “crossing” may become widespread.
The MT-12 Rapier was designed by Soviet designers in the 1960s. It is designed to repel tank attacks. The gun can fire 100-mm anti-tank ammunition.
