Ukrainian Armed Forces seize Russian Basurmanin infantry fighting vehicle in Donetsk region (photos, video)
Ukrainian military captured a modernized Russian BMP-1AM Basurmanin in the Donetsk sector.
This was reported by the press service of the 58th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
Soldiers of the 58th Mechanized Brigade repelled the invaders’ assault and captured a Russian modernized BMP-1AM intact.
“The occupiers tried to advance, but our [soldiers] fought back well. The mechanic jumped out of the [Russian] infantry fighting vehicle, the vehicle made it to the spot, hit a tree and remained intact,” the soldier said.
Photos of the same combat vehicle, dated early October 2023, were found online on the page of one of the occupiers.
The seized BMP belonged to the 37th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation. At the time of the shooting, she was in the area of Volnovakha, Donetsk region.

In addition to the factory-installed on-board anti-cumulative grilles, the vehicle also had a superstructure welded onto the turret to protect the BMP from drone attacks. In the military footage, the “superstructure” on the vehicle was damaged, presumably as a result of such a hit.
According to a soldier of the 58th Brigade, the seized vehicle will undergo a technical inspection in a few days, after which it will reinforce one of their units.
What is known about BMP-1AM “Basurmanin”
The BMP-1AM is a Russian infantry fighting vehicle updated by Uralvagonzavod, in which the original turret was replaced with a combat module from the BTR-82A to increase firepower.
The BPGU module (MB2) is equipped with a 30mm caliber 2A72 rapid-fire automatic cannon and a 7.62mm caliber PKTM machine gun. A combat vehicle module can be equipped with a thermal imager, but it is not always present.
Despite the upgrade, the Basurman’s ballistic and mine protection remained at the level of the basic Soviet BMP-1 and can only withstand fire from a 12.7 mm machine gun in the front projection and small arms in a circular pattern.
