Ukrainian Armed Forces start using APKWS missiles on the front line (video)
Ukrainian marines have started using APKWS missile launchers against the occupiers at the front. This follows from a video posted on social media.
It was filmed by soldiers of the 37th Marine Brigade. They successfully use high-precision 77-mm guided missiles against the enemy. The video shows the launcher mounted on an HMMWV chassis. After firing, the missile, which is adjusted during the flight, hits the target, which is located in the building. APKWS missiles are so highly accurate that they can hit small surveillance stations mounted on tripods.
The APKWS project was implemented by the defense manufacturer BAE Systems. It has developed an integrated laser guidance system for 70-mm Hydra unguided missiles. L3 Harris specialists have created the VAMPIRE missile system based on APKWS. It can be mounted on various transportation platforms, including off-road vehicles.
The allies supplied VAMPIRE systems with APKWS missiles to counter drones. They can be used as short-range air defense systems. The transfer of the systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces was announced by the Pentagon at the end of August last year.
