The Ukrainian defense industry continues to work on modernizing the Neptune missile. Initially, it was anti-ship. Later, a cruise missile was developed on the basis of the basic version to destroy ground targets. The Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully tested it in Crimea.

The War Zone journalists asked Kyrylo Budanov what modern weapons the Ukrainian army uses against the aggressor. The DIU chief replied that the armed forces are using all available weapons, including drones, naval drones, and a modernized Neptune.
Budanov emphasized that the modernization of the Neptune missile is ongoing. There are no problems with this. The main difficulty is the lack of production lines. Ukraine cannot produce cruise missiles in large quantities. Because of this, they have to be saved. “Neptunes are used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces mainly to strike air defense systems. The gaps in the enemy’s air defense made in this way will be used for other military operations.
