Ukrainian Railways resumes online services after major cyber attack
Ukraine’s main railway carrier has successfully restored its online ticket sales system following a serious technical failure. The company has migrated to a new secure platform and is gradually restoring additional functionality, including trip planning with transfers and online train schedule boards.
Large-scale update of the ticket sales system
Ukrainian Railways has successfully migrated to a new platform with enhanced security following a major cyber attack that affected online services. This was reported by the company’s press service.
According to the railway carrier, the transition to the new secure platform took place during nighttime. “We migrated to the new platform overnight, built protection, and are actively restoring additional functionality,” Ukrainian Railways stated.
Key system updates include:
- Complete restoration of online ticket sales functionality
- Launch of route planning with transfers in the mobile application
- Gradual restoration of online boards with station-by-station train schedules
- Implementation of additional cybersecurity measures
It’s worth noting that the situation at railway stations remains stable – no queues are observed at ticket counters, indicating the effectiveness of the measures taken.
Recall that on March 23, due to a technical failure in Ukrainian Railways’ IT system, all online services were temporarily suspended. Later, on March 28, another technical failure occurred, which affected the ticket purchasing process. The final restoration of online ticket sales took place on March 27 following what was described as the largest cyber attack on the company’s systems.
Currently, Ukrainian Railways continues to work on expanding functionality to ensure maximum passenger convenience and strengthen its systems’ protection.
The restoration of Ukrainian Railways’ online services demonstrates the company’s ability to quickly respond to technical challenges and ensure stable operation of important passenger services. System modernization and enhanced protection will contribute to more reliable service operation in the future.
