Ukrainian Saferoad saves cars from potholes using artificial intelligence
A Ukrainian development team has presented a revolutionary web application Saferoad that uses artificial intelligence and motion sensors to detect dangerous road sections in real-time. The system automatically warns drivers about pits and potholes, helping to preserve vehicles and improve traffic safety.
From teacher’s idea to innovative security system
The unique Ukrainian application Saferoad was born from a real need and personal experience of Ukrainian teacher Oleh Syrovatko, who faced the problem of bad roads daily. Working in a rural area and covering more than 40 kilometers daily, he personally experienced the problem of vehicle damage due to hidden pits and potholes.
Saferoad became the world’s first web application that combines advanced technologies for road safety. The system uses a comprehensive approach that includes motion sensors, GPS navigation, and artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze road surfaces. The unique feature of the development is that it automatically detects problematic road sections and warns drivers about potential dangers in real-time.
The development team conducted extensive system testing, covering over 1,000 kilometers of roads in Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. During six months, algorithms were improved and mapping of dangerous areas, optimal travel speeds, and zones with poor coverage was carried out.

Before publication on Google Play, the application underwent thorough testing by a team of 12 testers who tested it on various vehicles – from passenger cars to trucks over two weeks. In addition to the mobile version, the developers also created a desktop version of the application.
Currently, the project is developing using the developers’ own resources. The team plans to scale the platform throughout Ukraine, paying special attention to secondary roads that often remain overlooked by road services. In the future, the developers plan to enter the international market and integrate Saferoad with popular navigation systems to improve user comfort.
Saferoad demonstrates how Ukrainian innovations can solve global road safety problems. The application not only helps drivers avoid vehicle damage but also creates a unique database about road conditions that can be useful for government services and private companies.
