Ukrainian soldiers shoot down cruise missile on approach to Kyiv using machine gun (video)
Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, showed a video of the destruction of a Russian cruise missile. The defenders destroyed the target on March 21, 2024. The missile was flying toward Kyiv.
The commander posted a video of the missile being shot down on his Telegram channel. “Training + coordination = result,” Pavliuk wrote.
“During a nighttime missile attack on the approach to the capital, a mobile fire group of the Land Forces destroyed an enemy cruise missile with fire from a Browning M2 machine gun,” the commander signed the video.
According to him, this is not the first cruise missile shot down by this unit.
As a reminder, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, 29 Russian X-101/X-555 cruise missiles were fired at Kyiv on the night of March 21. All of them were shot down.
One of the targets was eliminated by a Ukrainian shooter from the National Guard.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the soldier’s name is Oleksiy. He is an anti-aircraft gunner with the Bureviy Brigade.
“As part of a mobile firing group, he and his comrades-in-arms are defending Ukrainian cities during enemy air attacks,” the ministry’s press service said.
They quoted the words of the defender himself.
“I ran to the position. After assessing the situation, checking the target on the thermal imaging scope, checking its acquisition, I launched the missile. I had literally seconds to do everything. But after the launch, a moment later I saw the missile explode,” Oleksiy said.
