Ukrainian students can study for free at the University of Groningen

The Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Groningen (Netherlands) has introduced the possibility of temporary free education for students who have been forced to interrupt their studies and leave the place of study due to the war waged by Russia against Ukraine.

Such students will be enrolled as exchange students without moving for up to one year. They will be able to continue their studies in one of the available bachelor’s or master’s programs. They will also be able to receive an official certificate of all completed courses during this time. Training is conducted exclusively in English. All additional opportunities available to regular students will also be available to Ukrainian students.

Students from Ukraine will not pay tuition fees. However, the university does not provide any housing or scholarships for such students. However, the government and volunteers in the Netherlands are now helping to provide housing for refugees from Ukraine (“temporary protection”) and giving out housing money to those who have no other source of income.

To take advantage of the offer of the University of Groningen, you need to check whether the Faculty of Science and Technology has a bachelor’s or master’s program, which is a student in Ukraine. The faculty provides training in the following areas:

  • Applied Mathematics
  • Applied physics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Astronomy
  • Biology
  • Biomedical engineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Industrial engineering and management
  • Life science and technology
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Pharmaceutics

There is currently no standard admission procedure. Each case considered individually. Therefore, those students who have found a suitable program advised to write directly to the supervisor of this program. After assessing the situation, they will talk about the necessary further actions. You should be prepared to provide evidence that you are a student from Ukraine and your current completed courses and grades, which allows you to decide which course you can enroll in.
