Ukrainian Su-27 fighters can also launch long-range JDAM Extended Range smart bombs
Almost two months ago, it became known that the Ukrainian Air Force was using MiG-29 fighters to launch JDAM-ER. As it turned out, the Su-27 is also a carrier of long-range smart bombs.
The press service of the Ukrainian Air Force has published a photo of a Soviet Su-27 fighter jet with a Mark 82 bomb attached. The JDAM-ER equipment package increases the launch range to 72 km. The maximum deviation is 11 meters.
JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) allows free-falling bombs to be converted into smart bombs using wings and a tail unit with guided fins. Western fighters can select a target during the flight.
The Ukrainian Air Force is still using Soviet aircraft, so target information is set at the airfield. By the same token, Soviet fighters launch American AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles.
