Ukrainians turned a captured Russian tank into an original combat vehicle

A new turret was installed on the hull of the trophy T-62 tank and the armor around it was reinforced.

Ukrainian volunteers used a trophy Russian T-62 tank to create an armored fire support vehicle. The car was created with the assistance of Serhiy Prytula’s charitable organization.

The new car is ready for testing and its photo was posted on Twitter.

The developers position this vehicle as a BMPV, i.e. a heavy armored personnel carrier. However, the published photo does not show a landing compartment for infantrymen.

The basis of the fire support vehicle is the hull of a captured Russian T-62M tank. Instead of a tank turret, the modified hull is fitted with a turret with a 30-mm automatic cannon, which was removed from a Russian BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle.

The upper frontal part of the hull and the turret were fitted with Kontakt-1 dynamic protection units, which are supposed to increase the vehicle’s protection against ammunition. The lower frontal part of the machine is covered with a protective screen.

The vehicle was equipped with onboard armored metal screens to protect the upper part of the hull, up to the stern, where the engine is located.

The repairmen have several trophy T-62s waiting to be modernized. Also, several APCs, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers are in operation at the same time
