United Airlines plane makes an emergency landing due to a malfunctioning toilet

A curious incident occurred on a United Airlines flight last week. A Boeing 777-300ER en route from Frankfurt (Germany) to San Francisco (USA) had a toilet failure, forcing an emergency landing. This was reported by Bild.

According to eyewitnesses, an unpleasant smell of feces appeared in the cabin due to a malfunction of the waste disposal system. After 11 hours of flight, the crew commander decided to turn the plane around to the departure airport, as the technicians were unable to fix the problem quickly, so it became impossible to continue the flight across the Atlantic.

Data from the FlightAware flight tracking application shows that the airliner circled the North Sea off the coast of the United Kingdom for some time before turning around.

“On Friday, March 29, a United flight returned to Frankfurt after a technical malfunction was detected in one of the aircraft’s toilets,” United said in a statement.

The carrier reportedly accommodated the victims in a hotel, and the next day they were transferred to San Francisco on another flight.

This is not the first accident on board United Airlines in recent years. Recently, one of the airline’s planes was forced to make an emergency landing due to turbulence at the New York State airport. At least 22 people were injured and seven had to be hospitalized.

Reportedly, the jetliner was unable to cope with “strong winds” on approach to Newark Liberty International Airport and had to abort landing.
