A U.S. military V-22 Osprey convertible crashes in Japan.
This was reported by the Japanese broadcaster NHK.
There were eight servicemen on board the American aircraft.
According to a spokesman for the Japanese Coast Guard, an Osprey convertible aircraft of the US military crashed off the coast of the Japanese island of Yakushima in the south of Kagoshima Prefecture.
The Coast Guard received information about the accident around 14:47 local time.
The Coast Guard then sent a patrol boat and aircraft to the disaster area.
There is currently no information on whether there are any fatalities or injuries among the people on board the Osprey convertible.
At the same time, representatives of Kagoshima Prefecture say that local police received information that the American Osprey landed on the coast near Yakushima Airport around 14:37, and its left engine was on fire.
Sources in the Japanese Ministry of Transportation say that the convertible took off from the US Marine Corps base Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, in the direction of the US Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture.
This is not the first crash of a V-22 Osprey by the US military. In August, three U.S. Marines were killed in a convertible plane crash. The tragedy occurred on the remote tropical island of Melville, north of the Australian mainland.
