US begins work on transferring Russian assets to Ukraine, – Biden’s special representative
President Joe Biden’s Special Representative for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker says the United States is working to transfer Russian assets to Ukraine
This was reported by the Financial Times.
According to Biden’s special representative, the United States has frozen $8 billion worth of Russian sovereign assets, most of which are located in the EU and Japan.
The assets of the Russian Federation frozen by the West should be used for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The legal teams are working to understand what can be done with the Russian assets.
“Essentially, if I were to say not from a legal point of view, but from an ethical and moral point of view, given the destruction that the Russians have caused in Ukraine, you know, they have to contribute to the restoration of Ukraine. From a legal point of view, the question of how to do that is still under development,” said Penny Pritzker, President Joe Biden’s special representative for Ukraine’s economic recovery.
On September 7, it became known that the United States would for the first time transfer assets confiscated from sanctioned Russian oligarchs to Ukraine: they will be used to support Ukrainian military veterans.
