US officially approves delivery of first M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the approval of the first batch of M1 Abrams to be delivered to Ukraine. The tanks will soon go to Europe.

Doug Bush, chief of the U.S. Army’s acquisition office, said the M1 Abrams is ready for shipment. The tanks will be delivered to Europe and then put at the disposal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Along with combat vehicles, Ukraine will receive fuel, equipment, spare parts and ammunition.

In total, the United States plans to transfer 31 M1 Abrams main battle tanks to the Ukrainian military. The delivery was announced in early 2023. The tankers are currently undergoing training in Germany. The tanks are expected to be delivered to Ukraine in September.
