USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) aircraft carrier catches fire in the United States – the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes
Sailors from the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier have successfully extinguished a fire caused by a short circuit. The incident occurred around 14:00 on June 28, according to the press service.
Some of the personnel who were not involved in direct firefighting temporarily left the ship. However, no one was injured in the incident, Commander Zach Harrell, a spokesman for the U.S. Air Force, told Defense News.
“Our emergency team on board the Abraham Lincoln responded quickly to a fire in the emergency diesel generator room,” – Harrell said.
According to him, the fire was extinguished in just 10 minutes.
Harrell also noted that there is no reason to suspect a criminal act. The extent of the ship’s damage is currently being assessed.
At the time of the fire, the Abraham Lincoln was at the North Island Air Force Base dock undergoing scheduled maintenance, Harrell added.
