Valkyrie drone takes to the skies for the first time under AI control
The US Air Force has successfully tested an AI-controlled drone. According to Defense News, artificial intelligence controlled the XQ-58A Valkyrie.
The testing was organized by a testing and training laboratory operating in Florida. The strike UAV took to the skies under AI control after two years of research by the Skyborg Vanguard team.
According to Colonel Tucker Hamilton, who is responsible for AI testing and operations in the Air Force, the Valkyrie flight proved that it is possible to develop agents to perform modern missions. The program to develop AI-controlled drones aims to make them suitable for cooperation with manned aircraft. The first AI-powered Valkyrie flight was preceded by millions of hours in simulators.
The Air Force Command assigns artificial intelligence one of the leading roles in future wars, as it is able to instantly respond to changing operational conditions. AI makes decisions much faster than humans, making it an ideal pilot.
