Washington announces a $10 million reward for information on the financing of Hamas militants

On October 18, 2023, the U.S. Treasury Department added all five individuals to the Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) list.

The United States is offering to pay a reward of up to $10 million for information that will “destroy the financial network” of the Palestinian movement Hamas. This was reported by the press service of the US State Department.

As part of the Reward for Justice program, the United States expects to receive information on five financial intermediaries who manage companies in Hamas’ investment portfolio and facilitate the group’s activities.

Among them: Abdelbasit Hamz Elhassan Khaira, Amer Kamal Sharif Alshawa, Ahmed Sadu Jahleb, Walid Mohammed Mustafa Jadallah and Muhammad Ahmad ‘Abd Al-Daim Nasrallah.

What is known about Hamas’s financial intermediaries

The press service notes that Abdelbasit Hamz Elhassan Khaira lives in Sudan and is a Hamas financier. In addition, the statement adds that he managed several companies in the group’s investment portfolio and was involved in the transfer of nearly $20 million to Hamas officials. Hamza also has long-standing financial ties to al-Qaeda and companies linked to Osama bin Laden in Sudan.

Amer Kamal Sharif Alshawa, Ahmed Sadu Jahleb and Walid Mohammed Mustafa Jadallah are Hamas operatives and part of the group’s investment network in Turkey.

The State Department is also looking for information on Muhammad Ahmad Abd al-Daim Nasrallah. The press service clarified that he is a longtime Hamas operative and has close ties to Iranian structures. According to the agency, he was involved in the transfer of tens of millions of dollars to the group.
