Washington Post: U.S. plans to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions for rocket artillery

The United States plans to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions for rocket artillery. Their range is greater than that of the artillery cluster shells that the Pentagon is already supplying to Kyiv.

This is stated in the material of The Washington Post.

The Biden administration is assessing the likelihood of a continuation of the war in Ukraine next year and possibly in the years to come, and is considering several new ways to increase support for Kyiv.

In Washington, for example, there is growing support for the provision of cluster munitions for MLRS, which can strike at a greater depth than the artillery munitions that the United States began supplying last month, the newspaper writes.

U.S. commanders believe that Ukrainians are wasting artillery fire on Russian barriers that mimic Soviet tactics. According to one US estimate, since the beginning of the war, Ukrainians have fired about 2 million 155-mm artillery shells, almost exhausting Western stockpiles. U.S. officials urged Ukraine to instead focus its artillery fire on critical targets and use it to advance quickly toward its goals.

The United States plans to continue equipping the Ukrainian army with many other weapons systems, including F-16 aircraft, which, according to WP, will begin arriving in Ukraine in a few months.
