We can forget about the Su-75 and Su-57: the Russian Federation cannot sell fighter jets for export

Sanctions, low efficiency in the war and losses made it so that the Russian Federation will hardly be able to manufacture aircraft for export by the end of the decade.

It is increasingly difficult for Russia to implement export plans for its Su-75 and Su-57 fighter jets.

Before the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the leadership of the Kremlin had large-scale plans for the sale of the 5th generation fighter Su-57 and the light tactical fighter Su-75. Now these plans ‘are in ruins’.

The production of the Su-57 fighter in the Russian Federation is proceeding at an extremely slow pace, and the publication assumes that the export of the aircraft will not be available until the end of the decade.

The story with the Su-75 ‘Checkmate’ is even worse. The Russian Federation only presented a mock-up of the fighter and it has not yet made a single test flight.

The only aircraft that the Russian Federation is currently mass-producing is the Su-35 fighter-bomber. However, it will be difficult to send it for export even in small quantities. Earlier, Egypt, Indonesia and Algeria wanted to buy Russian planes, but the US passed a law on sanctions against third parties. Because of this, interest in the Su-35 fell away.

After the invasion of Ukraine, sanctions are having an increasingly devastating impact on the aerospace sector. They harm the Russian Federation in completing the Su-57 and Su-75 programs, since production depends on Western machines and technologies.

The attractiveness of the Su-35 also decreased due to the lack of significant successes of the Russian Armed Forces during the invasion. They lost two multi-role fighter squadrons to various defects.

Based on all these factors, the publication concludes that the Russian Federation will not be able to sell aircraft to other countries even if it wants to. Sanctions and loss of own aircraft fleet will not allow to do this.

We will remind, on July 20, 2021, the new Su-75 Checkmate fighter was officially presented in the Russian Federation. It was planned to be manufactured mainly for export.

The Russian Federation also planned to equip Su-57 fighters with hypersonic missiles. It was also planned to install a new engine on the plane.
