WhatsApp to release new feature for offline file sharing

Functionality researchers have found a mention of a new feature for the Android version of WhatsApp messenger. In beta version 2.24.2.20, it is now possible to exchange data with contacts in the vicinity.

This feature is similar to AirDrop in Apple devices and Quick Share, a joint development of Google and Samsung. You don’t have to be connected to the Internet to share data, and the messenger has this feature, which makes it easy to share files even if your smartphone doesn’t support it for some reason.

According to the feature description, to activate the “bridge” between devices and create a file sharing request, it is enough to shake the smartphones. The maximum size of a file that can be transferred in one session is 2 GB.

It is not yet known when this feature will be implemented in WhatsApp.
