WhatsApp users can now create events in group chats

WhatsApp has announced a new feature called Community Events, which will soon be available for groups outside of communities. Although the exact time of the worldwide launch is unknown, some users of the 2.24.14.9 beta for Android can already take advantage of this feature.

WABetaInfo shared a screenshot that shows that the new event option is also available for regular group chats.

How it works

Now, when users click the paperclip icon in a group chat, they will see a new Event icon that allows them to create new events. Group members can view and accept invitations to events, and only the author of the event has the right to make changes. It is important to note that group events are protected by end-to-end encryption.

Android users who want to get an early look at the Events feature can join WhatsApp’s beta programme.
